GARZA RELEASES VIDEO FOR NU-DISCO CUT 'CHERRY CRUSH'

GARZA has just released a cool new video for his latest track 'Cherry Crush' - a raw and unapologetic love letter to disco. Directed and produced by acclaimed cinematographer David Dutton, the video was shot in San Francisco's legendary Church of 8 Wheels roller disco.

'Cherry Crush' is an infectious nu-disco cut. The track's loose and funky guitar licks soar next to warm and swirling pads. The mid-tempo beats are as catchy as a smile, and splashy cymbals, arpeggiated bass and miniature synth explosions bring neon flashes to the spacey, swirling groove. But what finishes it all in style is the smooth and expansive vocals of legendary Thievery Corporation singer and collaborator LouLou, who brings a touch of soulful elegance to this feel-good track.

"'Cherry Crush' is an homage to my love of early '80s disco and new wave," said GARZA, "channeling bits of Blondie and Giorgio Moroder in a wash of blissed-out synthesizers and nu-disco and house beats. LouLou's gorgeous floating vocals suit this track perfectly."

GARZA met Dutton, who has produced and directed over 100 music videos, through a mutual friend in San Francisco. "I love his creative thought process," said GARZA. "We met and discussed ways to capture the track's disco flavor over a few glasses of mezcal. The Church of 8 Wheels is an iconic venue and we had a lot of fun filming the video there."

As one half of Thievery Corporation, GARZA's reputation for creating global music rich in lush, intricate arrangements is renowned. But it's under his solo project where GARZA's really been flexing muscle of late, serving up dancefloor-ready tunes that draw inspiration from his many influences. Referencing the '80s electronic music and indie synth-pop of his youth, his 'Daydream Accelerator' album blurs the lines between rock and electronic, marries pop sensibilities to techno beats, flirts with dancehall and toys with new wave.

For 'Cherry Crush' he reached into the vaults and pulled out a previous collaboration with his good friend Kalani of Thunderpaw, completely revamping the track into a disco behemoth. Out now on Magnetic Moon, 'Cherry Crush' is a ticket to the Studio 54 of your imagination.
